Two strikers who Celtic can target in the January transfer window

At times this season, Celtic have looked bereft of ideas in the final third. Quite often, the Hoops have struggled to find the final pass in the opposition’s box. Brendan Rodgers’ side have then come alive, just like they put six past St. Johnstone.

Celtic would go on to find the back of the net 20 times in the four Premiership games before the drab 0-0 draw against Livingston.

Odsonne Edouard has been providing the goals since his summer arrival at Parkhead. The Frenchman has scored 12 goals in 22 appearances across all competitions. Celtic are competing on all fronts; UEFA Europa League, the Premiership and the Scottish League Cup. Odsonne might need someone alongside him to share the goalscoring burden.

Here, we look at two centre-forwards that Celtic can target during the winter transfer window.

Dominic Solanke

The Reds’ teenage striker has struggled for minutes at Anfield this season. Perhaps more tellingly of how Solanke’s stock had fallen, with Liverpool chasing the game in Belgrade, Klopp opted to introduce Origi into the fray instead of Solanke. A January move would help the young striker clock valuable minutes for his development.

Solanke has failed to hit the ground running at Liverpool, scoring just once in 27 appearances across all competitions. Despite the lack of goals, the 21-year-old is a physical force who leads the line well.

He has fallen down the pecking order due to a quality first-team and the backup options Klopp has at his disposal. His link-up play with midfielders would make him a valuable asset for the Brendan Rodgers.

Bojan Krkic

Bojan Krkic has never fulfilled his full potential. The La Masia graduate has struggled since leaving the Spanish giants in 2011. The quick 28-year-old is a good dribbler and can play anywhere across the frontline.

Apart from being a good finisher, Bojan is excellent in holding onto the ball and contributing defensively. Krkic is currently plying his trade in the Championship with Stoke City. Although his numbers don’t make for a good reading, Krkic would offer a different dimension to Celtic.

Now in his prime and with a year left on his current deal at the Bet365 Stadium, a move to Glasgow would provide Krkic with the perfect stage to return to his very best.
