The honeymoon period under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer came to a sorrow end as Manchester United blew their chances of finishing in the top-four. The Red Devils managed to get just 11 points in the final 10 games of the season and ended up 6th, four points behind fifth-placed Arsenal.
Solskjaer has a massive summer transfer window ahead of him. If Manchester United don’t get it right, they will certainly end up in the same position at the end of next season.
A lot of things need to be changed at Old Trafford and here are three things Solskjaer needs to do to have a successful season:
De Gea has undoubtedly been Manchester United’s best player for the best part of the last five years. The Spaniard has had a dip in form recently but that should have no bearing on the fact that he needs to stay at the club.
The former Atletico Madrid shot-stopper has just a year left on his contract and United cannot afford to go a whole season with uncertainty looming over their number one’s head. United should give in to De Gea’s demands and secure his long-term future at the club.
The Red Devils have a number of players in their squad who have massively underperformed this season. Their presence in the squad has often prevented the growth of the club’s younger players and United should be ruthless in their sales this summer.
Marcos Rojo, Phil Jones, Eric Bailly, Nemanja Matic and Alexis Sanchez are among those who are either past their prime or are seriously underperforming and Solskjaer should have all of them replaced by the start of next season.

Ander Herrera is set to leave the club at the end of his contract, which will leave a massive hole in the middle of the park. Nemanja Matic doesn’t look like the player he was two years ago.
United have a real gem in Scott McTominay but a player next to him needs to have the proper balance between attack and defence. A proper number 8 will solve most of United’s attacking woes next season and it will take their game to a whole new level.
