According to the Sun, Barcelona are interested in signing Liverpool forward Divock Origi. The Catalan giants are keen on bolstering their attack after the nightmare they suffered against the Reds in the Champions League semi-finals.
Now, the Belgian forward has emerged as the latest candidate for the striker role at Camp Nou, while the Catalans are keeping tabs on Atletico Madrid talisman Antoine Griezmann.
The 24-year-old has surprised many this season. The Reds forward has made a massive impact despite limited starts. Origi has bagged five goals and an assist across all competitions this season.
And his best night arrived when the Belgian was deployed as a starter, owing to the absence of Roberto Firmino in the semi-finals against Barca. Origi scored a brace to see his side edge past the La Liga champions 4-0, overturning an impossible three-goal deficit.
The former Lille Player also had a decent loan spell with Wolfsburg last season. Having earned 25 caps for his national side, Origi still failed to make it to last year’s World Cup squad.
The Blaugrana’s No.9 Luis Suarez has looked in bad shape throughout this season, as his scoring rate diminished this season. Lionel Messi was phenomenal throughout this campaign but couldn’t get enough support from any of his forwards.
Now, there is a desperation to bolster their attacking prowess under Valverde.
Origi possesses all the attributes to become a successful striker at Barca in the long-run. The Belgian was overlooked by many as a Reds players but still battled the odds to find his feet.
His daunting pace, combined with strong technical skill and most importantly an eye for goal makes him a force to be reckoned with. Though he can’t be a guaranteed starter at Barca because of the presence of Suarez, Origi still can win his chances by making quick progress.
