Tottenham v Southampton Report – Tottenham Match Report

10-man Tottenham sneaked past Southampton 2-1 at the Tottenham Stadium to end a run of bad results.

Tanguy Ndombele and Harry Kane were the scorers for the home side, while the visitors did equalise at one point through Danny Ings. Serge Aurier’s mad four-minute spell handed him a red card in the first half that made things tough for his team.

Hugo Lloris, who became a Tottenham villain in the game, made a good save from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s shot to keep the score at 0-0.

Then, in the 24th minute, Ndombele had an opportunity to shoot and he did that with aplomb. His shot was deflected into the back of the net leaving Angus Gunn with no chance.

Spurs have been throwing leads away in the past few games, and they did again when Lloris tried to overplay few yards away from his goal and allowed Danny Ings to press him and score the goal.

Before that, we saw a mad four-minute spell from Aurier, who made two proper yellow card challenges to get himself sent off in a stupid manner. His manager shouldn’t be happy for that.

However, two minutes before half-time, Tottenham managed to create a sweeping move which involved Son Heung-min and Christian Eriksen, whose eventual pass found Kane 12 yards out. The England captain then made no mistake to put the ball into the back of the net.

Southampton had chances to get themselves back in the game, but Lloris redeemed himself with a couple of decent saves to keep his team’s lead intact.

On the other hand, Spurs had opportunities to extend their advantage, but it was not to be. All in all, a handy win for them after a series of bad results that had them in the mid-table zone.

Here’s how their fans reacted after this game:
