West Ham must not think twice about slapping a £100m price tag on this talented Englishman – Agreed?

Why West Ham are right to slap a £100million price-tag on Declan Rice

Declan Rice has been one of the bright spots for West Ham United over the past 18 months.

The 20-year-old midfielder is already an England international and recently featured in their Euro 2020 qualifiers.

The Hammers star has been linked with a move to Manchester United while Manchester City are also keen on Rice (h/t Express).

However, West Ham are set to slap a £100million price-tag on the 20-year-old as they try to ward off the interest from the Manchester pair (h/t Express).

That might seem a little steep for someone who has only completed two full Premier League campaigns, but the Hammers are making the right move.

Protecting their star

The Express adds that United tried to sign him last season, and the youngster still has four years left on his current deal.

There are no guarantees in football and Rice could leave in the future, but the Hammers are ensuring they get great value for the 20-year-old.

The Hammers are also protecting their investment with the Englishman having four years left on his deal. United would have to pay through their nose to sign the midfielder, and they have spent big to land English players in the previous summer window.

The Red Devils spent a record sum to land Harry Maguire, and it would be difficult to name another English defensive midfielder who has the talent and the potential that Rice has.

The 20-year-old is destined for great things as long as he keeps developing at the right club.

West Ham are on the up and need to keep hold of their best players, and slapping a huge sum on their head is one way of ensuring that.

The youngster is also happy at the Hammers and his performances have helped West Ham to third place in the Premier League after Saturday’s games.

The Irons haven’t had such a talent come through the ranks for several years and need to keep him at all costs.

Verdict

Manchester United and City have the big bucks to spend in the transfer market, and it will take a record fee to land Rice.

However, the Hammers are making the right move by pricing him out of a move and trying to keep the star with them for as long as possible.
