Predicted Wolves Line-up To Face Sheffield Wednesday In The EFL Championship

Although the sending off of Lee Cattermole was sadly predictable, indeed foreseen here, Wolves could not beat the weakest team in the league last time out and will be hungry to make amends at Hillsborough.

Barry Douglas picked up his fifth booking of the Championship season, against Sunderland, and so will miss out here. Youngster Ruben Vinagre is likely to step in at left wing-back.

There don’t appear to be any other selection headaches for Nuno Espirito Santo other than perhaps some tiredness in and around the squad, though Cardiff’s late show in getting a point at Reading means they can’t afford to rest anyone right now.

The 3-4-3 formation so familiar now will no doubt be in evidence once again:

GK – John Ruddy

A rock at the back and largely unrecognised; Ruddy is likely to start again in goal and will do his bit.

CB – Ryan Bennett

Competition is tough for this position with Danny Batth vying for a role amongst others, though Bennett is in good form and is the most likely starter.

CB – Conor Coady

Getting better and better in the middle of this defence and is sure to be a hit in the Premier League next season. It’s a pity for Liverpool that they couldn’t spot his talent as a central defensive figure.

CB – Willy Boly

Another excellent defender, this area is not a concern for Wolves.

RWB – Matt Doherty

Having an excellent season in this role and should be seen to good effect against the Owls.

LWB – Ruben Vinagre

The 18-year-old may step in and will do alright. However, it’s hard to believe Wolves won’t miss the 2 goals and 7 assists provided by Barry Douglas from this position in the league.

CM – Ruben Neves

Neves and Saiss are a good combo and they are likely to win the midfield battle.  A lot comes down to Neves finding a cutting final pass for the front three.

CM – Roman Saiss

Solid if unspectacular in the middle, Saiss is a willing partner for Neves.

RW – Helder Costa

It may well be time for just a slight tweak up front after Wolves drew a blank against Sunderland, with Costa perhaps coming in for his countryman, Cavaleiro.

LW – Diogo Jota

Like Neves and Boly, Jota is proper quality and will be the main danger to the Wednesday defence.

ST – Leo Bonatini

Reinforcements could come in during January, however, for now, Bonatini must keep going.
