Top 3 Bargain Signings By Rangers Since Their Promotion To The Premiership

Rangers had to effectively start all over again when they were demoted back in 2012 but have done a reasonable job of recovering, slowly but surely.

They now sit second in the Premiership and have improved their squad from the one which Mark Warburton cobbled together last season, largely containing a ragtag collection of older players looking for another payday.

Here we look at arguably their best three bargains since last summer, all of whom may be there for the long haul:

Graham Dorrans (Norwich City, £1.5million)

With the quality he possesses and at the age of 30, Dorrans still looked every inch a Premier League player in England and his record spoke for itself south of the border; his clubs routinely enjoying a better win ratio with him in the team than without him.

In nabbing him for just around £1.5million, Rangers got themselves a proper bargain and although he has been missing in recent weeks, he has already made an impact on this team and will be crucial in the second half of the season.

Ryan Jack (Aberdeen, Free Transfer)

Until now, Aberdeen had been Celtic’s closest challengers and their captain and major influencer was midfielder Ryan Jack.

In enticing him to Ibrox, away from his hometown team and on a free transfer, Rangers pulled off somewhat of a coup in modern Scottish football and once again the combative midfield player has made a good impact.

His disciplinary record isn’t the best but if he can combat that, he will be the finished article in the context of this league and would be another piece put into place in what is Rangers’ recovery jigsaw. Don’t be surprised to see him play a major part in the Light Blues winning a trophy soon.

Josh Windass (Accrington Stanley, Free Transfer)

Windass’ move from Accrington last summer didn’t blow too many skirts up but he has proven to be a real improver and the penny has certainly dropped with him this season.

Windass has played in a number of roles for Rangers and has struck 5 goals and 4 assists in 16 Premiership appearances, being involved in a league goal every 142 minutes.

Whatever happens over the winter, Windass will be an even better player by the end of this season and so it’s likely the club will persevere with him and we can finally understand why his father, former Hull player Dean Windass said that Rangers should be building a side around his son.
