Rafa Benitez should be looking to cement Newcastle United’s mid-table finish. Here’s how a perfect July could do the Magpies a world of good.

Holding onto Matt Ritchie and Jamaal Lascelles

If Benitez wants to maintain the team’s momentum next season, he’s going to have to hold onto his best players. Matt Ritchie is reportedly a subject of interest from Championship team Stoke City, who were relegated from the Premier League this season.

He was an integral part of the Magpies squad last season and a constant threat going forward. Benitez should certainly hold onto the former Bournemouth midfielder. Ritchie is versatile and possesses the ability to play in a number of positions across the field.

He provides Benitez with depth and the option for the manager to deploy him according to the requirement. Ritchie is surely one of Benitez’s best players in the squad and it’s absolutely vital that Newcastle hold onto him.

Benitez must also make sure he holds onto captain Jamaal Lascelles, whose impressive performances last season have led to heavy attraction. West Ham United are reportedly interested in the centre-back, as Manuel Pellegrini molds his squad. Lascelles was one of the Magpies’ most consistent players this past season. Newcastle United signed Swansea City midfielder Ki Sung-Yeung on a free transfer and it was a much-needed one. The Magpies looked toothless going forward and needed additions in the area. Ki is a classy midfielder on the ball and a brilliant footballer. He has an excellent work ethic. The signing will certainly prove to be a massive one of the Magpies.
