Newcastle United Opinion – Magpies offered a chance to sign Charlie Austin

According to a report in Chronicle Live, Newcastle United have been offered a chance to sign out-of-favour Southampton striker Charlie Austin during this transfer window.

Austin, who has upset the Saints manager Ralph Hasenhuttl following his rant in the dressing room, hasn’t been included in their pre-season squad for trips to Austria and Ireland. (h/t Chronicle Live)

Clearly, the Englishman’s future at St.Mary’s is all but done this summer. He could be on his way out ahead of the start of next season. (h/t Chronicle Live)

With only one year left in his contract, Austin, despite being 30 now, would be available at a cut-price deal (h/t Chronicle Live). Here’s why Newcastle should sign him during this transfer window:

Austin could add vital goals for Newcastle

Charlie Austin is an experienced Premier League striker, who has played a host of games at this level for different clubs and systems. In 106 appearances, he has scored 34 goals and assisted a further 10, which is a more than decent return, considering the teams he plied his trade for.

In terms of his attributes, the Englishman is one of those strikers who likes to play on the shoulder of the last defender. He likes to run the channels, finish off the chances with regularity and also link up play with other attacking midfielders.

Newcastle United, despite having spent big money on signing striker Joelinton from Hoffenheim, could do with having Austin in their squad ahead of next season.

The former QPR man does possess the quality and experience to score vital goals for the Magpies and help others in and around the forward line.

Conclusion

All in all, we can conclude by saying that Newcastle and Steve Bruce shouldn’t hesitate in signing Charlie Austin during this transfer window.

With a cut-price deal available, it could turn out to be a shrewd move for the Magpies.
