Newcastle United opinion: Should the Magpies sign Kyle Scott?

According to a report from the Sun, Newcastle United are willing to pounce on the opportunity to sign Chelsea’s Kyle Scott once his contract with the Blues expires in the summer.

The report reveals that the 21-year-old midfield starlet will officially leave the Blues and Benitez is prepared to take a punt on him.

Scott has been at Chelsea since the age of 10 but has only made it as far as the bench in the Premier League, when the Blues were managed by Antonio Conte.

Having made just one substitute appearance for the senior side, Scott will be let go and there’s no better place for him than Tyneside.

Benitez has a lot to consider in terms of rebuilding his squad and if money is made available by the potential new owners, Newcastle United could well be the new Manchester City in a few years’ time.

In terms of reinforcements, their midfield has to be the number one priority. Isaac Hayden is expected to leave while Mo Diame’s contract is up this summer.

Jonjo Shelvey has been hugely unreliable, which leaves the Toon with just Sean Longstaff, who has become a fan favourite after his impressive few games.

Newcastle United have nobody to back up Longstaff, which is why the signing of Kyle Scott from Chelsea on a free transfer would make so much sense.

The 21-year-old American is technically brilliant and has the ability to carry the ball from one end of the pitch to another. Naturally a box-to-box midfielder, Scott is more than capable of playing in a much advanced or a much deeper role in the middle of the park.

His vision is brilliant and his execution has been top-notch whenever he has been given a chance. His experience at the top level is a major concern but the young midfielder cannot hope for a better manager than Rafa Benitez to help him fulfil his massive potential.

Conclusion

A young midfielder who has almost no experience in the top-flight usually is a huge gamble for Premier League clubs these days but Kyle Scott could turn out to be a massive star in the coming years.

The Magpies will have very little to lose if the move doesn’t work out considering that he will be coming in for free and Benitez is the sort of manager who can bring out the best in a player like Scott.
