Southampton are slowly changing. From the relegation-threatened side that they were under Mark Hughes to a genuine mid-table side with the strength to do more, they have travelled a lot.
It’s incredible just how much the arrival of Ralph Hassenhuttl has changed things for the club and why the Saints board has to keep backing the Austrian manager.
His style of play and high pressing suits the Premier League but more importantly, it has worked perfectly at Southampton. Even before Hassenhuttl arrived, they were a hard-working side and that’s been the case ever since they reached the Premier League.
It’s why they’ve done relatively well over the years but their main issue this season other than a lack of tactics was a lack of goals. Their strikers simply refused to score goals, with Danny Ings and James Ward-Prowse finishing as the club’s top scorers with 7 goals each.
For any side in the Premier League, that is a dismal number and Southampton only survived because of other issues. Shane Long and Charlie Austin managed just seven goals between them, but just one goal came in the final 8 games of the Premier League.
It’s a shocking return for any club in the Premier League as mentioned above, and it’s why Southampton need a new striker. There are bucket loads of strikers in the market but one man who’s perfect is Che Adams.
Southampton have been linked with him in the past and now the Daily Mail has reported that the Saints have had a new bid for the striker rejected. The rejected offer was around £8million and even if the club submit an improved offer, the player would be a bargain.
He finished his season with a rather impressive 22 goals and 5 assists in all competitions – a brilliant return for any striker. Adams, at the age of 22, has done it with style and panache that few Southampton stars have managed over the years.
This means that Che Adams is not just a scorer of good goals but also a good scorer of goals. This season, Adams produced 27 goals in 48 appearances, 11 goals in 33 the season before and 13 goals in 40 in his debut season for Birmingham City.
It’s a rather great return and it shows where Che Adams will fit into the team and why a move makes a lot of sense. The young striker is tough and tenacious on the field but also oozes clinical nature that Southampton really need.

Southampton need a new striker and while there might be many out there, Che Adams ticks a lot of boxes for the Saints. With time, the young 22-year-old will only improve and start performing even better.
