Middlesbrough Opinion: Why Middlesbrough should make a move for Jordan Hugill

The Lancashire Evening Post (h/t Football London) has reported that West Ham United will let on-loan star Jordan Hugill leave if the right offer does come in.

Currently, on loan at Middlesbrough, the 26-year-old has done relatively well this season despite playing second fiddle to Britt Assombalonga.

Under manager Tony Pulis’ tutelage, Hugill has improved leaps and bounds this season, with seven goals to his name in 35 appearances. The 26-year-old has seen a majority of his appearances this season coming off the bench, which in turn has affected his form. But Hugill remains someone the club need to make a move for.

While they do sit in a promotion playoff spot, things could get worse in the near future for Middlesbrough. They’ve depended heavily on Assombalonga this season. While the 26-year-old has responded in like, few others have managed to score goals.

Barring Jordan Hugill, neither Ashley Fletcher nor Rudy Gestede has performed well this season. This showcases why the club need to make the move for Jordan Hugill, as the 26-year-old can make an impact at Middlesbrough.

His rise has been incredible, with the 26-year-old climbing up the ranks and struggling along the way before finally earning a move to West Ham. But things didn’t stick with the Hammers and they sent him out on loan after six months.

Hugill only managed three appearances for the club and then left for Boro, hoping to rediscover his best form. It has been in the Championship that the 26-year-old has been at his best. His final season ended with him scoring 20 goals for Preston North End.

What makes the move better for Middlesbrough is the fact that the striker will be affordable. The Northern Echo has revealed that Hugill’s price tag will be around £10 million. That is a negotiable fee as the Northern Echo has revealed.

And it could be brought down even further with a little negotiating by the club and the board.

Conclusion

While Jordan Hugill isn’t the best Premier League striker in the world, the 26-year-old is a consistent goalscorer at the Championship level. It’s there that he has flourished and that is exactly why Middlesbrough need to make a move for him.

Otherwise, they will struggle in the near future, especially if they keep depending on only Britt Assombalonga.
