Bournemouth Opinion – Stats Analysis – Callum Wilson, Cherries’ main man

Bournemouth have had another decent season in the Premier League so far, for which credit goes to the club, manager and the players.

It is still surreal that this club was fighting for survival in third and/or fourth-tier football a decade ago. This just goes to show the magnitude of a herculean job performed by the manager and the players in such a short period of time.

The current season is their fourth consecutive in the English top-flight, and each year the quality of the squad is getting better. Furthermore, the Cherries play an attractive brand of football that gives a good impression about them whenever they step onto the field.

Playing a free-flowing game is one thing and scoring goals in good numbers in another, especially when it comes to being consistent in the Premier League.

Callum Wilson

There is one player who has been banging them in on a regular basis and keeps doing well for the team despite niggling injury issues along the way – and that is Callum Wilson.

The 27-year-old, who has made his England debut this season, has been a top-class striker throughout but the level of his performances has increased this season.

For that reason, we saw him deservedly linked with a move to Chelsea and Leicester City.

So, without ado, let’s analyse Wilson’s performance this season and use some numbers to back them up:

Stats Analysis – Callum Wilson

Wilson has featured in 23 out of the 31 league games this season and scored 11 goals. He is bettering his assist tally simultaneously as well, providing six of them so far.

The Englishman has created 11 big chances apart from the six assists and has averaged key passes at 1.2 per game. He has won 1.3 headers on a game per game basis, meaning the threat is there from set-pieces as well.

Wilson’s shooting accuracy is close to 50%, which is better than most in the league.

In terms of missing big chances, the 27-year-old has missed 15 of them. Hence, there is an area for improvement. On the other side, if he scores even half of those missed chances, his tally would zoom up closer to the golden boot contenders. (Stats via Premier League and Whoscored)

Conclusion

Callum Wilson is a top-class striker who deserves the recognition he is getting from all around. At 27, the peak age is upon him and he must be eager to score more goals and get closer to the golden boot rate season after season.

If there is one player from outside the “top-six” who can easily lead the line for one the big boys, it is Wilson!
