United already have options to fall back upon, in Sergio Romero, Dean Henderson (on loan at Sheffield United) and Joel Pereira (also out on loan).
However, it’s hard to determine if any of them is ready to be a regular fixture in the side. The goalkeeping position isn’t just for stopping balls from going into the net anymore as one has to be the 11th outfield player, and United under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be hoping that they move forward with the change in role.
