Manchester United are in a shambles, they are in as bad shape as they have ever been since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club. Jose Mourinho may have once been a great manager but the former Chelsea boss did a number on the Red Devils.
So much so, that all it took was Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s permanent appointment to rock the boat and change the course. The former Manchester United super striker brought some life back into the club, changing them from an overly rich top-six side to a top-four contender.
But then with four games left, the club collapsed, even losing to the already relegated Cardiff City. In fact, things got so bad that the club only managed the two points out of their final five games.
That run included losses to Everton, Manchester City and the aforementioned Cardiff City, things that really shouldn’t have happened but they did.
This, more than anything, shows that the club needs to change its recruitment process and start targeting players who have something to lose. Not buy players who already have their career done and dusted like Nemanja Matic, Alexis Sanchez and Lee Grant.
Things really need to change and one way of doing that is reigniting a move for AC Milan star Davide Calabria. The Red Devils were linked with a move for the Italian somewhere in February and it is a move that would be perfect for the club.
That is the case because Crystal Palace wants somewhere in the mid £60million for their superstar Aaron Wan-Bissaka. While the 21-year-old right-back is undoubtedly talented, he is not worth £60million, at least not right now, after a little less than a year and a half of top-flight football.
Davide Calabria, on the other hand, has done very well over the last two years for Rossoneri, becoming a large part of the brand new AC Milan. A typical Italian defender, Calabria is very solid at the back and has more than enough in his locker to play either at left-back or right-back.
His offensive abilities are also rather impressive, with the 22-year-old averaging a passing accuracy of 84%. But the Italian is far from the finished article and while he would improve under new management, Calabria will take some time to adjust to his new surroundings.

Manchester United need defensive reinforcements and given that the Red Devils did concede a club record 54 goals, it has to be this summer. It’s why reigniting a move for Davide Calabria makes a lot of sense and the 22-year-old will only improve if given the time and the space to do just that.
