According to reports from English news outlet, the Standard, Liverpool are ready to offer £120,000-a-week star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain a brand new deal. The 25-year-old has endured an injury-hit career with Liverpool since moving there from Arsenal at the start of last season.
However, Chamberlain has made a sensational impact when fit. He would go on to finish his debut season with 5 goals and 8 assists before a horrific knee injury in the Champions League semi-finals cut things short.
It would take Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain most of this season to recuperate himself and he made appearances in the final few games. Even then, he was given just a grand total of 19 minutes to showcase his ability, with Klopp focusing on the future.
The 25-year-old is the definition of Jurgen Klopp’s perfect player as he combines dynamism with never-ending stamina. Furthermore, his past as a winger, wing-back and even as an attacking midfielder does mean that Chamberlain has the athleticism to outrun most midfielders.
That’s probably one of the reasons as to why the club even made the move for him in the first place. And now, with the Champions League trophy wrapped up, next season their only concern other than defending that trophy should be the Premier League.
This was yet another season that got away. In the end, there was only one point separating Manchester City and Liverpool. While Pep Guardiola and his super-team performed their very best, Klopp and Liverpool were not too far behind.
In fact, if it wasn’t for a few untimely draws, things might have gone the other way for the Reds but there is no time to dwell on the past. Instead, their first and only aim should be focus on the future and that’s why it’s a great move to offer Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain a new deal.
The 25-year-old alongside Virgil Van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and even Naby Keita are a big part of that future. The report further adds that the new deal would see Chamberlain get around the same wages but it’s more or less a 12-month extension.
That negates the last year that the 25-year-old spent injured and allows him to make something of himself at Liverpool. It’s a great move and given the quality that should be present in the English top tier next season, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will play a big part.

Liverpool needs to keep their best players at the club and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is just that man. The 25-year-old deserves a new deal and with a 12-month extension, it allows him to get the time that he missed back and hopefully he can recapture that form for the club.
