Manchester United Opinion: The Red Devils should sign Layvin Kurzawa

According to a report from Manchester Evening News, Manchester United are one of a few clubs interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain left-back, Layvin Kurzawa.

The Frenchman, 26, had an injury-hit 2018/19 campaign with Paris Saint-Germain that saw him manage just 21 games across all competitions.

Kurzawa is reluctant to leave the French champions and prove his fitness to manager Thomas Tuchel, but as he has entered the final year of his contract, PSG are ready to cash in on him, claims the Daily Mirror.

Along with Manchester United, Tottenham and Atletico Madrid are also interested in the 26-year-old defender, who could be available on the cheap this summer. Keeping that in mind, Manchester United must do everything possible to sign Kurzawa ahead of the new season.

The Red Devils conceded over 50 goals in the Premier League last season, finishing sixth in the table under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. That simply documented how leaky United’s defence is and why Solskjaer must reinforce his backline over the summer.

We are just five days away for July to start and the Reds have signed only winger Daniel James from Swansea City.

Solskjaer wanted all the signings to be done before the start of the pre-season and as things stand, that doesn’t look like it’s happening. Nevertheless, the Norwegian tactician should persuade the board to complete the deals as quickly as possible.

The Evening Standard reports United are close to completing the signing of Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace.

Wan-Bissaka is deemed to be a long-term replacement for the departed Antonio Valencia and as United would finally get a permanent solution at right-back, Solskjaer should also address the other side of his team’s defence.

Luke Shaw has nailed down his place at left-back, proving to be one of United’s rare consistent performers last season. However, he lacks a back-up and that’s when signing Kurzawa would make sense.

Kurzawa previously shone at Monaco and developed himself as one of Europe’s finest attacking left-backs, but his time at PSG has not gone according to the plan, even though he has managed to win a lot of trophies at the Parisian club.

A move to Old Trafford could be just what the Frenchman needs to reignite his career that has stuttered in recent times.

The 26-year-old is proven at the highest level, experienced in the Champions League, has the skill-set to flourish in the Premier League and could be a useful addition to United to keep Shaw on his toes.

Both Kurzawa and Shaw can fight for the left-back spot and that healthy competition could potentially bring the best out of two pacey left-backs.

Verdict

Kurzawa would expect to come in at Old Trafford and be the first choice right away, so it’ll be some test for Shaw on how he manages to keep hold of his place in Solskjaer’s team.
