Manchester United Opinion: Why Manchester United should consider a move for John McGinn

According to reports from Daily Mail, Manchester United are interested in making a move for Aston Villa star John McGinn. The Red Devils are looking for midfield reinforcements and believe that McGinn is their man (h/t Daily Mail).

The report has added that Manchester United are closing in on a £15 million move for Sean Longstaff. That could give Newcastle United a few headaches but for the Red Devils, it would be the right move.

However, John McGinn is still at the top of their shortlist despite the fact that Aston Villa are demanding £50 million and have plans to offer him a new deal. The 24-year-old had a good season, winning awards and plaudits.

He played a massive part in helping Villa return to the Premier League and yet, McGinn is so much more. Predominantly a central midfielder, McGinn can play across the midfield, even as a defensive midfielder. While that shows a wide range of skills, it’s in the centre of the park that McGinn excels.

An all-action midfielder, the Aston Villa star has a defensive bone in his body and thus, can be used deeper. McGinn’s defensive nuance, accurate passing, offensive instincts and tenacity allowed him to flourish in the Championship.

It initially seemed like McGinn would struggle to adapt but the Scottish international took to it like it was a second skin. And as he has proven, with time, the same should happen in the Premier League.

It’s why the move would be perfect for the Red Devils, even if it is a rather risky one, unlike the one they made for Aaron Wan-Bissaka. The 21-year-old has Premier League experience under his belt, which is something McGinn doesn’t have.

Yet that should bear little after his performances in the second division, which is why Manchester United must consider taking the plunge.

Conclusion

John McGinn may not be the world-class central midfield option that Manchester United fans are looking for but the 24-year-old is a lot like Daniel James.

Although he is a little older, he is as talented as the Welshman if not more. With a little time and the right coaching staff, McGinn certainly has the potential to grow bigger.
