According to a report from Marca, Barcelona are plotting a big money move worth €112m for Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez. The Argentine is currently making his presence felt in the Copa America, as he played a crucial role behind Scaloni’s semi-final qualification.
The Catalans are eyeing the Racing Club youth product as a long-term successor to Luis Suarez.
The 21-year-old had a terrific debut campaign with Inter, especially towards the end of the 2018/19 Serie A season. Despite being used as a substitute on 17 occasions, Martinez was still able to garner 9 goals and 2 assists in all competitions.
His run in the Copa America has been extraordinary, bagging 2 goals in 3 appearances and a hat-trick in a friendly against Nicaragua. Martinez made his early impression with Racing Club, bagging a whopping 26 goals and 6 assists.
Elsewhere at Nou Camp, the Blaugrana haven’t ceased their search for a top-quality striker, as Luis Suarez has already entered his 30s. Hence, it makes complete sense for the club to be in the market for new strikers.
And to that end, Martinez is certainly a viable option worth considering.
As far as stats are concerned, the Argentine is yet to work on his passing skills and decision-making, which is evident from his pass success percentage of 69. On the upside, Martinez possesses a wide range of qualities to savour such as his deadly nature inside the box.
He has attempted around 3.3 shots per game in the Copa America and 2.4 in the Serie A.
A good header of the ball, he is also adept at finishing techniques, dribbling, penalty-taking and long-range attempts.

And Martinez seems like a solid option for the Catalans, given the quality he possesses at such a young age.
The Argentine frontman would find it more comfortable adapting to Barca’s playing style. There will always be room for improving himself alongside his compatriot Lionel Messi.
Martinez’s price tag may appear hefty but the Catalans should not have any second thoughts about signing him up.
