Back in June, the Manchester Evening News had claimed that Manchester United were interested in signing Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi, who had then admitted he was ‘flattered’ by the links with the Red Devils.
Wilfred Ndidi, 22, arrived at Leicester from Genk in January 2017 and has been a consistent performer for the Midlands club. The Nigeria international was an ever-present for the Foxes in the Premier League during the previous campaign with his combative midfield performances drawing plenty of praise from supporters and pundits alike.
The 22-year-old, however, hasn’t had an ideal start to the new campaign. He was culpable for Chelsea’s opener at Stamford Bridge last weekend, with the midfielder getting robbed at the edge of the box by Mason Mount and scoring the goal for the hosts.
Ndidi later went on to redeem himself by scoring a bullet header in the second half to help Leicester earn a point against Chelsea.
Barring his mistake that led to the goal, Ndidi was excellent and once again demonstrated why he could play for any Europe’s top clubs. That being said, Manchester United should reignite their interest and go for the Nigerian midfielder in January.
Manchester United have enjoyed a good start to the 2019/20 campaign, picking up four points from the first two games. The additions of Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka has given real solidity to the backline, while Daniel James has added an ‘X’ factor the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s attack due to his raw pace.
Nevertheless, Solskjaer lacks depth in the central midfield area after he surprisingly chose not to bring in replacements for Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera. United are just an injury away from midfield crisis and Solskjaer address that area by signing Ndidi.
Nemanja Matic is yet to play for United this season and given he is out of contract next summer, Ndidi could be his perfect replacement at Old Trafford. Ndidi is regarded as one of the best tacklers and ball-winners in the Premier League, an asset for his club when it comes to screening the backline.

The 22-year-old can spread the play well when afforded room and time, although he is a conservative passer of the ball and tends to keep things simple in midfield. The Nigerian has gained massive Premier League experience in a couple of years’ time and at just 22, he has the potential to grow.
Ndidi has all the qualities to play for Manchester United. If the Nigerian can smoothen the rough edges of his game under Solskjaer, he’ll certainly solve the club’s midfield conundrum.
