According to a report from the Metro, Manchester United have offered a 4-year contract to Marseille’s highly-rated goalkeeper Ahmadou Dia. The 20-year old has been hugely impressive for Marseille’s youth squads and the Red Devils want him to move to Old Trafford in the summer.
United are currently 6th in the Premier League and have a mountain to climb to get back in the Champions League next season. The Red Devils were also humiliated by Barcelona in the Champions League.
After a fine resurgence since Jose Mourinho’s departure, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was given the permanent role as United boss but his side’s form has dipped since the announcement.
However, with six games still to play, United have every chance of turning their season around into a successful one.
One massive area of concern for the Red Devils is their situation with David de Gea.
United triggered the option in the Spaniard’s contract to extend his stay at the club until the end of next season but his wage demands are proving to be a massive stumbling block for the club in their attempt to sign him on to a long-term deal.
According to a report from the Manchester Evening News, the Spanish shot-stopper has demanded over £300,000-a-week to commit his future with the club but given Alexis Sanchez’s wages of £500,000-a-week including bonuses and image rights, United are struggling to offer their number one what he wants.
However, irrespective of De Gea’s situation at the club, Manchester United should now be looking at the future. Young Dean Henderson has done exceptionally well in his loan spell with Sheffield United this season and has shown Manchester United his worth.
The 22-year-old has kept 18 clean sheets in the Championship and has a bright future ahead of him. The addition of Ahmadou Dia will help both players improve massively, as they’ll be allowed to compete for the same role in the coming years.
Dia has been a regular for Marseille’s B team this season and his performances have caught the eye of Manchester United, who have rightly offered him a four-year deal. Dia is yet to make a senior appearance for the French outfit, nor will he be ready to become the number one at United any time soon.
However, with Manchester United’s history of developing unknown young players into world-class stars, Dia would be at the right place to continue his development and with the right mentality and under proper guidance, he has the potential to be the next big thing in European football.
