Manchester United bought two quality defenders in the summer, with Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka joining the team for huge sums.
The pair looked great on the opening day of the season and should eliminate some of the problems the Red Devils had at the back.
However, United were also linked with a rising star in the recent transfer window.
Juventus sporting director Fabio Paratici was speaking about their latest acquisition, Merih Demiral, and claimed the Red Devils also wanted the Turkish centre-back while speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Calciomercato):
“He is our player who has had the most deals on the market, don’t imagine how many. The Turk was requested by Milan but was also approached by Manchester United.”
Maguire seems to be a smart signing by United but Demiral could have fixed a lot of problems in the future too.
Last season was a struggle for some of United’s centre-backs. Eric Bailly hasn’t been close to his best over the past 18 months or so, while Phil Jones has lacked consistency.
Chris Smalling was the best centre-back for the first half of the previous campaign, but the Englishman has his problems. The Red Devils also have Marcos Rojo on their books and the sooner they get rid of the Argentine, the better it will be.
Demiral has great technical ability and has a huge physical presence too. The Turkish defender could have been a star in the Premier League under the right manager.
The 21-year-old was one of the most impressive defenders in the previous Serie A campaign, and Juventus seem to have pulled off another transfer coup.
United have Axel Tuanzebe on their books, and the 21-year-old could feature in some of their games this season, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer trusting the youngsters.
However, United need to make some changes to their central defence, and it will be interesting to see if they can sell some of the deadwood before the end of the European transfer window.

Demiral could have been a great signing for the future but they landed one of England’s best in Maguire this summer.
The Englishman has started his United career in impressive fashion and hopefully, he continues performing at the top level.
