Why Man City should snap up Adam Hlozek as a long-term prospect

According to the Guardian, Man City are interested in Czech teenage sensation Adam Hlozek, who has been making waves in his homeland with his abrupt emergence at Sparta Prague.

The report adds that the 17-year-old winger has also caught the eye of a number of elite clubs in Europe, including Bavarian giants Bayern Munich and Dutch heavyweights Ajax.

Adam Hlozek, who has been described by the Guardian as “the most talented young player to emerge in the Czech Republic since Tomas Rosicky”, is held in high regard by the coaching staff at Sparta Prague and has already earned rave reviews for his rapid development.

The 17-year-old rose through the youth ranks at Sparta Prague before making his senior professional bow for his boyhood club in November last year at the age of 16, thus becoming the youngest player in the club’s history to appear in a league match.

The highly-rated teenager hasn’t looked back since then and has gone from strength to strength over the past twelve months, establishing himself as one of the mainstays of his team’s attack in the Czech top-flight.

The Czech league might only be 13th in UEFA’s association club coefficient but the starlet deserves a lot of credit for his performances, nevertheless.

Hlozek accumulated 4 goals and 3 assists in 23 appearances across all competitions last season and he has already hit the ground running this term as well, scoring 4 goals and assisting another 5 in the process.

The 17-year-old already has an envious profile at the senior level for a player of his age, with the teenage winger boasting of 8 goals and 8 assists in 35 first-team appearances for Sparta Prague.

That he is rubbing shoulders with the big boys at such a young age is indicative of a level of maturity that belies his tender years and it is not difficult to see as to why he has been tipped for stardom in what is currently his second season at the highest level.

A right-footed winger noted for his technical abilities, devastating pace and power, Adam Hlozek has illustrated the versatility to play in multiple positions across the forward line.

Essentially a left-winger by trade, the 17-year-old has also played on the right-hand side of the pitch, in a No.10 role and up top as a centre-forward.

To put things into perspective, Adam Hlozek looks like a real talent at this stage of his career and Man City have every reason to look at him as one for the future, albeit the reigning English champions would need to beat off competition from a host of elite clubs in Europe to land the youngster’s signature.

Besides forking out millions to bolster their senior ranks with several world-class stars, City have also made it a priority to snap up bright emerging prospects from far corners of the globe in order to regularly supplement their youth ranks with top-quality talents.

The Citizens already have a plethora of up and coming wingers on their books, with Jack Harrison, Ian Poveda, Marlos Moreno and Patrick Roberts all pushing hard to break into manager Pep Guardiola’s plans moving forward.

With stalwarts like Riyad Mahrez, Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane currently vying for a starting role in the senior ranks every week, the likes of Harrison and Moreno have spent a lot of time in the club’s loan army and Adam Hlozek would also need to go through several stages in his development if he was to move to Man City in the near future.

The likes of Morgan Rogers, Liam Delap, Ryotaro Meshino and Pedro Porro all came through the door at the Etihad in the summer as emerging prospects and Hlozek could be yet another fine addition to the club’s existing pool of up and coming young talents.   ‘

All in all, the Czech U-21 international is clearly one for the future and Man City making a move to snap up the prodigy would definitely be a step in the right direction.
