Rangers began the post Pedro Caixinha era, after the Portuguese’s sacking on Thursday, with an impressive 3-1 win over Hearts at the Tynecastle Park on Saturday.
It was the home team that took the lead, with Kyle Lafferty opening the scoring in the first-half with a fantastic free-kick. But veteran forward Kenny Miller, returning to the side, after having been banished by the former manager, marked his comeback with a brilliant double, before Josh Windass added a third, to seal three points for the Gers.
With the win, the Light Blues moved to 3rd in the Scottish Premiership table, with fourth-placed Motherwell having lost their game against Hibernian by a 1-0 margin. Here’s how the Rangers players fared on the day.
Had no chance with Lafferty’s goal. There were a couple of nervy moments, but his goal wasn’t breached again. Distribution was good.
The right-back was impressive going forward, looking to support Daniel Candeias at every possible moment. Sent in a number of dangerous crosses and assisted Miller’s second goal.
May have given away the free-kick for Lafferty’s goal, but it was another solid display in the heart of the defence from the youngster.
Starting his first Premiership game in over five months, the defender formed a solid partnership with McCrorie at the back and kept things in check. Was booked.
The Welshman looked to bomb forward at every possible opportunity and worked hard. Needs to work on the defensive side of things though.
Was a thorn for the Hearts’ defence all game long, linking up well with Tavernier and getting forward to good effect. Decision making was a little iffy at times.
Continued his impressive run of form with another hard-working display in the middle of the park. Tried to connect the two halves of the pitch and showed great energy.
A disciplined display from the midfielder who managed to stay out of trouble and partnered Holt decently.
Wasn’t really effective for long parts of the game, but when the chance presented itself, he took it brilliantly.
Returning to the starting XI after being pushed out, the veteran forward led the team by example and proved to be the match-winner with two goals.
Worked really hard but couldn’t break his recent dry spell in front of goals. Set up the opener for Miller and was always a danger to the Hearts’ defence.
Replaced Miller with five minutes left.
Came on for Morelos with little time to play.
On for Windass in the 90th minute.
