Likely Manchester United Line Up To Face Midtjylland: Love, Lingard And Keane To Start

Share

Manchester United travel to Denmark to face Danish champions Midtjylland in the first leg of the Europa League round of 32 tie on Thursday. United may be struggling domestically but they could still qualify for next season’s Champions League, with the winners of the Europa League now guaranteed a place in that elite competition. United failed to qualify from what looked like a relatively easy group in the Champions League, therefore Van Gaal has a lot of work to do, if he wants to stay here after May. The manager will look to rotate his squad given the fixture pile up they have this month.

Goalkeeper: David De Gea

Many people might want the manager to rest De Gea for this one given that it’s only the Europa League but given his form right now one feels that he will be very essential if United are to progress beyond this stage.

Defender: Donald Love, Chris Smalling, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson and Daley Blind

Love only made it to the match day squad for the first time this weekend against Sunderland, where he had to come on in place of Darmian to make his United debut, but he looks very likely to start again in this match. The fullback position will be occupied by another youngster Borthwick-Jackson, who has impressed hugely since making a breakthrough in the first team. The centre back pairing should consist of the usual suspects in the form of Blind and Smalling. The Englishman in particular has done exceeding well this season at the back for United.

Midfielder: Morgan Schneiderlin, Michael Carrick, Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial

Schneiderlin struggled against Sunderland last weekend but with Fellaini not doing too well also, it seems like Van Gaal might stick with the Frenchman. Carrick is one of the most experienced player in the squad and should start alongside Schneiderlin. Juan Mata will play major role from the number 10 position as and when United bombard forward. He will be supported by Lingard and Martial from both the flanks. Martial scored a wonder goal on Saturday and should be high on confidence, while Lingard seems to be a popular choice after his hard working displays this season.

Striker: Will Keane

Will Keane recently scored five goals in one Under-21’s match and came off the bench against Sunderland on Saturday, so is clearly in Van Gaal’s plans. United received some very bad news this weekend, when it was confirmed that Wayne Rooney will be missing from action for about two months, hence it gives Keane a wonderful opportunity to establish himself among the elites.
