Why Signing This Super Speedster Will Change Manchester United’s Fortune

Manchester United Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward revealed this week to United shareholders that the club will be looking to make ‘star signings’ in the summer. According to reports, United are interested in signing Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this summer.

The 26-year-old would cost a lot after scoring 27 goals for Dortmund this season and is rated amongst the elite forwards in Europe. Aubamayang – who was recently voted African player of the year – has improved dramatically since becoming the number one striker for Dortmund. When Robert Lewandowski left for Bayern Munich, Aubamayang stepped in as their number nine and Dortmund have been reaping the rewards ever since.

There is no surprise that big clubs around Europe are now chasing the Gabon international. Were United to sign him, he would fit perfectly into the Premier League’s style of play. Aubamayang is a physical player and would bring goals to this United squad. The Red Devils have been lacking goals this season and whether or not Louis Van Gaal will be in charge at Old Trafford next season, United will definitely be looking to add more fire-power in front of goal.

With Martial, United have a young, future star and if you put Aubamayang  in that equation, it would create a strike force that would put fear in some of the best defences. Aubamayang provides the kind of pace many defenders have nightmares about. He has the ability to run past defender as if they weren’t there and he has improved his skill working within a Dortmund team with so much flair over the years. When Lewandowski was at the club, Aubamayang was often deployed as a winger and because of his pace, he performed well in that role – similar to Manchester United forward Anthony Martial.

But it was playing in the number nine position where Aubamayang come into his own. He has elevated himself into the elite bracket of strikers in the world and he has thrived at Dortmund this season. If here were to come to Old Trafford, Aubamayang could excel playing with Martial and Rooney – this would be a strike force United fans have been dreaming about. With creative players such as Juan Mata and Ander Herrera in the team, Aubamayang would thrive on the chances they carve out.

Aubamayang has the strength and ability to flourish in the Premier League and at United, he could elevate them back to where they want to be – winning trophies and playing entertaining football.
