English news outlet Leicester Mercury has reported that Leicester City are interested in a move for Burnley star James Tarkowski. The Foxes are looking for a replacement for Harry Maguire, with the 25-year-old heavily linked with a move away.
So far Manchester City and Manchester United have shown interest in the English centre-back, leaving the Foxes in a pickle (Daily Mail). They clearly need reinforcements, as beyond that they have just Wes Morgan, Jonny Evans and Caglar Soyuncu.
The Turkish international is 22 years old, both Morgan and Evans are well into their thirties and have struggled to keep up with the pace of the Premier League this season. That leaves the club short-handed at the back, and having to look at James Tarkowski.
The 26-year-old has been Burnley’s rock at the back ever since he arrived in the winter of 2016, after impressing with Brentford. Since then Tarkowski has gained valuable Premier League experience and more importantly is a leader at the back, which adds to his value.
That makes him a very valuable target for the Foxes. Morgan at the age of 35 will retire in the coming seasons. Evans has done relatively well but the former West Bromwich man is 31 years old.
That does pose a problem for the club but it’s one they can solve with James Tarkowski. A no-nonsense centre-back, the 26-year-old has averaged 2 tackles, 1.2 interceptions and an average of 6.6 clearances per game.
But, his passing average doesn’t even compare to Harry Maguire, with the 26-year-old averaging 69% this season.
In comparison, Maguire has an average of 84%, which suits Brendan Rodgers’ style of play perfectly. One issue with comparing the two stars’ passing averages is the fact that Tarkowski plays for Burnley.
The Clarets don’t really dominate possession, which means that they are often forced to sit back and defend in nearly every game.
That does play a big part when it comes to James Tarkowski’s passing average and one that could change if a move does take place for the Foxes. Because in every other area, the 26-year-old matches Maguire stat for stat, which makes him a great option.

Leicester City need to start thinking about the future and someone like James Tarkowski is exactly that. They need reinforcements, regardless of the uncertainty surrounding Harry Maguire’s future, especially with Wes Morgan ageing.
