Newcastle United secured Premier League safety with a crucial 1-0 win away at Leicester City on Friday.
Ayoze Perez scored the only goal of the game, where the Magpies had the better chances to score more and make the scoreline comfortable.
As a result of that win, Rafa Benitez’s men are now 10 points ahead of relegation zone and have got that magical 38 points, which is generally more than enough to survive.
Leicester began the game confidently and passed the ball around with purpose. But they couldn’t play through a stubborn Newcastle rearguard.
Salomon Rondon went very close to give the visitors a lead when he hit the bar with a powerful free-kick from 35 yards out.
Newcastle remained resolute, not allowing any space in between the lines or in the wide areas for the attacking Leicester players.
The Magpies eventually broke at the other end and scored the opening goal through Perez in the 32nd minute.
It all started when Matt Ritchie picked up a loose ball on the left wing area and whipped in a terrific cross towards the near post. Perez then made a clever movement and glided his header past Kasper Schmeichel.
Leicester had half chances before and after half-time, but none of them was really testing the Newcastle back line.
Perez had a good chance after the break when Rondon picked him out with a lovely cross. But the unmarked Spaniard missed his volley completely to leave the game open.
At the final whistle, one could see the celebration from the travelling supporters. They know their Premier League status stays put for one more year. Benitez continues to do a magical job at the helm.
