Leeds United Opinion – Whites handing new contract to Kemar Roofe would be a no-brainer

According to a report in Daily Star, Leeds United are expected to hold contract talks with striker Kemar Roofe, along with two other star players Kalvin Phillips and Jack Clarke.

Roofe has just over 12 months remaining on his deal. Hence, it makes sense that the Whites are ready to embark the extension talks sooner rather than later. (h/t Daily Star)

As per the report, Leeds opened the negotiations with the representatives of the 26-year-old at the start of the season. But with the club still unsure of their Premier League promotion, they have delayed the final proceedings till the summer. (h/t Daily Star)

Kemar Roofe

The current situation is such that the Yorkshire-based side could lose their star striker if they do not offer an extension before the start of next season.

Here’s why Leeds should hand a new deal to Kemar Roofe and they would be right to do so:

Roofe is one of the key components in this Leeds team

One of the best things about Roofe is that he is not only a goal-poacher but also a team player.

In addition to leading the line, the 26-year-old’s ability to play on either wing or as a number 10 whenever the team requires is underrated. In fact, it should be appreciated because not many goalscorers prefer to change their positions.

The Englishman has scored 14 goals and provided two assists in 26 appearances. His work rate and pressing from the front to help the team without possession is fantastic.

Hence, it won’t be an overstatement if we say that Kemar Roofe is one of the key components in this Leeds United team. For that reason, the club shouldn’t think twice and offer him a contract extension, before the danger of losing him comes into the fore.

Conclusion

If there is any doubt in the Leeds camp as to whether or not to hand an extension to the 26-year-old, there has to be something wrong within the decision committee.

Roofe is an important player who should be kept by the club, regardless of where they are playing next season and beyond that.
