Derby County will travel to the Oakwell, this Tuesday night, as they take on Barnsley in the second round of the Carabao EFL Cup.
The Rams advanced to the second round of the competition after defeating Grimsby Town 1-0 before the international break and will want to get one over their Championship rivals and advance to the next round in the cup. Gary Rowett’s side come into the game on the back of a brilliant 5-0 thumping of Hull City in the Championship over the weekend and the manager will be hoping his side continue their clinical form on Tuesday night as well.
Midfielder George Thorne and striker Darren Bent are ruled out for the game. Andre Wisdom missed the weekend game against Hull due to illness, but is likely to return to the squad.
The 22-year old was given the nod for the previous cup tie and it is likely that he will start again, ahead of No.1 choice Scott Carson.
Started the weekend game at right-back and impressed the manager heavily. Could be lining up for his second start in three days.
The 33-year old might come in at centre-half, in place of captain Richard Keogh, against the club where he spent a year at the turn of the decade.
Another defensive change is very much on the cards with Curtis Davies likely to drop out for the 28-year old Alex Pearce, who featured in the first round of the tournament.
The left-back is back from injury and made it to the bench for the weekend clash. Could start on Tuesday night, in place of Marcus Olsson.
With not a lot of options in the middle of the park, Rowett could be forced to go in with summer signing Tom Huddlestone in the playing XI.
The 30-year old grabbed a double over the weekend and would be hoping to continue in a similar vein of form against the Tykes.
The summer signing started the previous game on the left flank but could find himself slotted out on the right-hand side on Tuesday night.
Has hit a great patch of form and scored a couple of goals against Hull. Should continue in the hole behind the striker.
The 27-year old Scotland international made an appearance from the bench over the weekend, but could be in line for a starting berth at the Oakwell.
The 28-year old is likely to get the nod ahead of David Nugent for the cup tie. Is yet to score a goal this season and would want to address that issue on Tuesday.
