Full Time: Brentford 2-0 Sheffield Wednesday

Brentford continued their unbeaten start to the season with a comfortable 2-0 win against Sheffield Wednesday. Goals from Neal Maupay and Ollie Watkins secured the points for the Bees, who have been impressive so far this season.

Striker Maupay opened the scoring from the penalty spot after Lewis Macleod was brought down by Sam Hutchinson. Brentford scored their second when a counter-attacking move ended with Watkins tapping the ball in.

Here’s how the Brentford players fared:

Brentford player ratings

Daniel Bentley (7/10)

Bentley was commanding and comfortable, with the opposition not posing much threat. Almost assisted a goal with a pinpoint throw.

Henrik Dalsgaard (5.5/10)

Was sent off after making a needless challenge late in the game. Could have done better to boost his overall performance.

Ezri Konsa (7/10)

Dealt with the physical pressure and was commanding throughout the game.

Chris Mepham

Chris Mepham (7.5/10)

Defended very well on several occasions, was positionally very sound and good on the ball.

Yoann Barbet (6.5/10)

Made a fantastic last-ditch tackle to deny Barry Bannan. Otherwise, he had a quiet afternoon.

Josh McEachran (8/10)

Started the game sloppily, but grew into it and controlled the midfield with ease. Played some lovely balls between the lines.

Lewis Macleod (8/10)

A really energetic and purposeful performance from Macleod. Won the penalty early on, which was converted by Maupay.

Sergi Canos

Sergi Canos (8/10)

Looked dangerous whenever he had possession and could have scored twice in the game. A well-rounded performance overall.

Romaine Sawyers (5/10)

Had a quiet game in comparison to other players around him.

Ollie Watkins (8.5/10)

Watkins was lively throughout the game and took his goal adroitly. Became a menace for the opposition full-back.

Neal Maupay (9/10)

Scored the penalty with composure and assisted the second goal for Watkins. A very good performance from the striker, running hard, chasing lost causes and being a nuisance for the opposition.

Subs

Kamohelo Motokjo (Subbed on after 70 mins) (7/10)

Was solid after coming on and made some useful runs up and down the pitch.

Said Benrahma (Subbed on after 70 mins) (6.5/10)

Was sharp and quick for the last 20 minutes, but his final product was lacking.
