Watford

Outstanding Deeney, Fantastic Doucoure – The best and the worst rated Watford players vs Burnley

Share

Full Time: Burnley 1-3 Watford

Watford got their first away win the league under Javi Gracia and maintained their perfect start to the season with an impressive 3-1 win away to Burnley. The Hornets struck either side of half-time via Andre Gray, Troy Deeney and Will Hughes to down the Clarets.

The home side did come back into the game by equalising but the visitors pressed on for more goals. Dyche’s men struggled to come back once Watford scored the second and third goals. A fantastic performance by the Hornets.

Watford player ratings

Ben Foster (4.5/10)

Was suspect whenever Burnley crossed the ball. Should have done better to stop Tarkowski’s equaliser.

Daryl Janmaat (6.5/10)

Provided width down the right-hand side. The Dutchman’s passing was a little sloppy but he was there in the right moments to help the team.

Christian Kabasele (6.5/10)

Had to deal with a barrage of crosses Burnley were putting into the box. Grew into the game and became more commanding.

Craig Cathcart (5/10)

Struggled for most parts of the game to handle Chris Wood’s physicality. Not a good day for him.

Jose Holebas (5.5/10)

Struggled against the pace of Aaron Lennon and was caught higher up.

Will Hughes

Will Hughes (7.5/10)

Scored a wonderful goal to make it 3-1. Performed very well, combining with Capoue and Janmaat.

Etienne Capoue (7.5/10)

Impressive performance from Capoue. Displayed composure and confidence in a crowded midfield area.

Abdoulaye Doucoure (8/10)

Was everywhere on the pitch, shielding the back-four and also showing stamina to make box-to-box runs. Fantastic!

Roberto Pereyra (6.5/10)

Showed moments of quality but was stifled by Matt Lowton. Got better when he cut inside and played more centrally.

Andre Gray (7.5/10)

Scored an early goal by linking up with Troy Deeney. Was a focal point throughout the game.

Troy Deeney

Troy Deeney (8/10)

Carried out some physical battles all game, dropped deep to win headers for main striker Gray. A very good performance from the Watford talisman.

Subs

Ken Sema (Subbed on after 68 mins) (6/10)

Came on and did well to hold the ball up down the left channel. Had a good pop at goal later on.

Kiko Femenia (Subbed on after 83 mins) (6/10)

Was brought on late to provide cover and he did well.

Isaac Success (Sub on after 89 mins) (N/A)

Did not get much time to influence the game.
