Rotherham United vs Middlesbrough Predictions – Middlesbrough line-up

This is it, Middlesbrough’s final chance to finish in the promotion playoff spot. At the moment, they sit a mere point behind 6th-placed Derby County and the Rams play West Bromwich, which is a tough fixture. A win would push them into the final playoff spot.

They are in form, with Boro winning four of their last five games, with just one loss to Nottingham Forest.

Tony Pulis and company were dominated in that fixture, with Forest winning 3-0. That cannot happen again but the fact that they’re playing Rotherham United does make things easier.

The Millers are struggling and have 21 losses to their name this season. They are also on a five-game winless run. This includes three consecutive losses, with them on the brink of relegation. With just one game to go, they have no chance of jumping out the zone.

Team News

Center-backs Dael Fry and Daniel Ayala are out for the season, along with captain George Friend. Lewis Wing and Sam McQueen are out and have no timeframe for their come back.

Probable Middlesbrough XI

Formation: 3-5-1-1

Manager: Tony Pulis

Darren Randolph (GK)

He is their first-choice keeper and will be in goal barring any injury issues.

Paddy McNair (CB)

He’s done well over the last few weeks on the right-hand side of a three-man central defence, alongside Flint and Shotton.

Aden Flint (CB)

With injuries to both Fry and Ayala, Flint will continue to lead the back line and help Boro keep a clean sheet.

Ryan Shotton (CB)

With injuries to several first-choice defenders, Shotton has played as a left-sided centre-back and has done well.

Jonny Howson (RWB)

The 30-year-old has been deputising as a right wing-back over the last few weeks and should keep his place.

Adam Clayton (CM)

Middlesbrough’s metronome, the 30-year-old should find a way to the team-sheet.

John Obi Mikel (CM)

The former Chelsea midfielder has made a job of becoming the team’s defensive midfielder and has often dictated the tempo of the game.

Muhamed Besic (CM)

The Everton loanee has struggled for form over the last few weeks and will have to put his best foot forward.

Stewart Downing (LWB)

George Saville has struggled to make too much of an impact and thus, Stewart Downing could start as the left wing-back.

Jordan Hugill (SS)

Ashley Fletcher has been another player who has struggled to make an impact over the last few weeks and thus Hugill could find a way onto the team-sheet.

Britt Assombalonga (ST)

The club’s top scorer by some margin, Assombalonga has done well of late and has netted three in his last four games.

Siddhant Lazar

Tom Landry once said "Football is an incredible game. Sometimes it's so incredible, it's unbelievable." Football is and always will be the beautiful game. What every child understands, yet every adult struggles to, is that it is a game that defines the nature of the universe. But that's just me.
