Southampton vs Tottenham Hotspur Predictions: Southampton line-up

After just one win their last 6 games, Southampton host Tottenham in the Premier League on Saturday. The Saints have no margin for error as they are just two points above 18th-placed Cardiff City.

A win will take Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side to 30 points and with 8 games left after this weekend, it would give them a huge chance of survival.

Team news

There is a big boost for Hasenhuttl on the injury front with both Danny Ings and Mario Lemina having a chance to be available for the game on Saturday. Young forward Michael Obafemi is ruled out after he picked up a hamstring injury in the game against Arsenal last midweek.

Probable Southampton XI

Formation: 3-4-1-2

Manager: Ralph Hasenhuttl

Angus Gunn (GK)

The summer arrival from Manchester City has started just 4 games this season and has kept 2 clean sheets. He should start again on Saturday.

Jan Bednarek (CB)

The 22-year-old has done well for the Saints recently and has been a regular since the arrival of Ralph Hasenhuttl. He is expected to continue there on Saturday.

Maya Yoshida (CB)

The Japanese has started the last two games in the heart of the defence and should continue on Saturday. His experience will be vital if the Saints are to control the likes of Harry Kane and Son Heung-min.

Jannik Vestergaard (CB)

The 26-year-old Dane has played 20 games in the league so far and his 6ft 6in frame will have to be put to good use in aerial duels on Saturday.

Yan Valery (RWB)

The 20-year-old scored an absolute screamer against Manchester United at the weekend and has been very good since the departure of Cedric to Inter Milan.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (CM)

The former Bayern Munich man has been very good for the saints in central midfield. His ability on the ball and his positioning without the ball will be extremely important for the Saints on Saturday.

Oriol Romeu (CM)

The 27-year old Spaniard has played 22 games for the Saints so far and should start next to Hojbjerg in central midfield.

Ryan Bertrand (LWB)

Bertrand is arguably Southampton’s most consistent performer over the last two years. His charging runs and accurate crosses will be crucial if this side is to get a result on Saturday.

James Ward-Prowse (CAM)

The 24-year-old has played 17 games in the league so far this season and has scored 5 goals. His deliveries from set-pieces will cause a lot of problems to Spurs and he should start behind the two forwards.

Nathan Redmond (LF)

The 25-year-old has played every game for the Saints so far this season and should continue up top on Saturday against Spurs.

Charlie Austin (RF)

The former QPR forward picked up an assist against Manchester United at the weekend and should start again on Saturday against Tottenham. Austin’s finishing has to be on point on Saturday as the Saints desperately look for points to survive.
