How Rangers Could Line Up With Greg Docherty In The Team

In a dream come true for the midfield man, Greg Docherty will look to finalise his move from Hamilton to Rangers on Wednesday in a deal worth around £650,000. The 21-year-old’s transfer ends weeks of hearsay and rumour and will allow him to fulfil a lifetime ambition – to play in the Light Blue of Rangers.

Rangers initially bid just £300,000 for Docherty but with the transfer deadline edging closer and much to be done to enable the club to see off Aberdeen for 2nd place and close the gap on Celtic, the Ibrox board have agreed to spend the money. The midfield man should feature this weekend.

It has also transpired that popular centre-back Danny Wilson is thinking of leaving the club to head to the States in what would be quite a shock for supporters. With Docherty on board and Wilson perhaps about to end his second spell at the club, here’s how the Rangers side may look:

Rangers XI Including Docherty

GK – Wes Foderingham

For Rangers’ long-term, a better ‘keeper will be required but for now, I see no reason why he won’t keep his place.

RB – James Tavernier

As much as we love characters in the game, it would be good for Tav to cut out some of the silliness and give a more professional air. However, he is certainly capable and is the first choice in this role.

CB – Russell Martin

The new arrival brings tons of experience and should become a regular between now and May.

CB – David Bates

Assuming that he doesn’t leave for Sunderland and with doubts remaining about Cardoso, Alves and of course Wilson, he may well fill this role alongside Martin.

LB – Declan John

The long-term solution for this role; an attacking full-back with some quality.

CM – Greg Docherty

The new man should make quite an impact and may go on to become a fan favourite.

CM – Ryan Jack

The former Aberdeen skipper may well keep his place, though the likes of Andy Halliday, Sean Goss, Jason Holt and of course Graham Dorrans will have something to say about that.

RW – Daniel Candeias

The Portuguese winger has done well for most of this season so far and may still be very much in Murty’s plans.

CAM – Michael O’Halloran

Used as a wide man in the past, O’Halloran has played on both wings but crucially has done very well down the middle for St. Johnstone this season while out on loan, scoring 5 goals in 16 league games which is something he can improve, with better players around him.

LW – Jamie Murphy

The 28-year-old Scot may well be used instead of Josh Windass, given that he has proven his quality at a higher level than this.

ST – Jason Cummings

Hasn’t had the best of times in his short stint in England, however, the former Hearts junior has scored 55 goals in 98 games in his last three seasons in Scottish league football, all while being on the improvement, as he and his club (Hibs) went up the ranks.
