Predicted Rangers line-up to face Aberdeen in the Betfred Cup

Rangers face a trip to the Hampden Park as they cross swords with Aberdeen in the Betfred Cup semi-final on Sunday.

The Gers come into the clash on the back of a frustrating 0-0 draw with Spartak Moscow in the Europa League.

But Steven Gerrard’s men will be buoyant to face Aberdeen, who were beaten by Hearts in the Scottish Premiership in the previous fixture.

Team news

Rangers midfielder Scott Arfield is back in training after recovering from a hamstring problem but Borna Barisic and Graham Dorrans are out of the clash.

Also, Gerrard will be without forwards Alfredo Morelos, who is suspended. Kyle Lafferty is cup-tied while Jamie Murphy is ruled out for the season.

Probable Rangers XI

Formation: 4-3-3

Manager: Steven Gerrard

Allan McGregor (GK)

McGregor has been spectacular in goal since returning to Rangers earlier this summer. He is set to retain his place in the starting XI.

James Tavernier (RB)

Tavernier has improved leaps and bounds under Gerrard. He has also led the team well this season.

Connor Goldson

Joe Worrall (CB)

Worrall has done very well in the last couple of games, ousting Nikola Katic from the starting XI.

Connor Goldson (CB)

Goldson has nailed down a regular place in the team and will partner Worrall in Rangers’ central defence.

Jon Flanagan (LB)

With Barisic injured, Flanagan is the ideal choice to start at left-back. The former Liverpool man has done very well whenever given a chance.

Ryan Jack (CDM)

Jack should take up the holding midfielder’s role. He will offer security to the back four and break the opposition’s play in the final third.

Ovie Ejaria (LCM)

Ejaria continues to impress with his displays in the midfield. He is a certain starter at Aberdeen on Sunday.

Lassana Coulibaly (RCM)

Coulibaly brings a lot of physicality and power to the midfield, breaks the opponent’s play and offers a different a different dimension.

Eros Grezda (RW)

Grezda could be unleashed in this game as the Albanian is a traditional winger known for his speed and directness.

Ryan Kent

Ryan Kent (LW)

Kent has been really good on the left flank for the Gers. He should retain his place for this League Cup game.

Umar Sadiq (ST)

Morelos is suspended and Lafferty is cup-tied, and that leaves Umar Sadiq as the only recognised striker in the squad.
