Jadon Sancho’s arrival could turn Man United into solid title contenders

According to the Manchester Evening News, Man United are plotting a £100 million raid on Borussia Dortmund for English wonderkid Jadon Sancho, with the report suggesting that Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to bring the 19-year-old to Old Trafford in January.

Sancho, who left his boyhood club Man City to build a career in Germany back in 2017, has been a raging success in the Bundesliga and he is currently considered as one of the hottest teenage properties in football at the moment. 

The teenager’s success story in Germany has influenced several other English youngsters to try their luck in the Bundesliga and Sancho, who was a complete rookie a couple of years back, currently enjoys a key role in the Three Lions senior international setup. 

The 19-year-old amassed a staggering 12 goals and 14 assists in 34 Bundesliga appearances the last term to help Dortmund to a runners-up finish in the league behind champions Bayern Munich and the teenager has already reminded the fans that his stellar run in the previous campaign wasn’t a mere flash in the pan. 

The jet-heeled versatile attacker has carried on from where he had left last season, hitting the ground running right from the start of the new campaign.

Sancho has already contributed with 2 goals and 2 assists in 2 appearances in the Bundesliga thus far this term, including a scintillating man-of-the-match performance to inspire his team to a comeback victory against FC Cologne. 

The England international, who already has 6 senior international caps under his belt, has been widely tipped to evolve into one of the best footballers in Europe in the years to come and Man United are apparently keen to bring him back to the Premier League. 

The move, if it materializes, would certainly be a bitter pill to swallow for United’s arch-rivals Man City, who had let Sancho depart the club for Dortmund a couple of years back. Now, the 19-year-old might come back to bite them hard should he complete a move to the Theatre of Dreams in January.

The Englishman has been strongly linked with a move to Man United in recent times and the fans should definitely look forward to their club grabbing the headlines with a record transfer fee for Sancho. 

United showed an inclination to sign burgeoning young talents before the deadline this summer, with the Red Devils completing deals for starlets Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James, whilst centre-back Harry Maguire was also brought in for a massive fee to add solidity to the backline. 

Interestingly, as the story goes, Solskjaer has now lined up Sancho as a top transfer target for the mid-season trading period in January and the quoted £100 million fee shouldn’t be a big problem for the club, especially following the £73 million sale of Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan. 

To put things into perspective, it has been clear from United’s transfer dealings this summer that Solskjaer is trying hard to build a squad in his own image, with several top-quality young talents on his wishlist. 

The Norwegian apparently wants to lay down a solid platform for the future and it is easy to see why Jadon Sancho, who is expected to reach tremendous heights over the next few years, has been identified as a top target. 

Solskjaer’s no-nonsense easy-on-the-eye counter-attacking philosophy primarily relies on the presence of pacey attackers upfront, which is exactly the reason why the likes of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial have made a positive impact thus far with their pace, sharpness, agility, clever off-the-ball movement and clinical finishing. 

Sancho, too, has similar attributes, with his lightning pace and mesmerizing dribbling skills, coupled with his eye for key passes, ability to create space in and around the penalty area and general nous of getting into the right positions to score goals, making him a dangerous presence in the final third. 

Add to that his work rate, drive, determination, stamina and the X-Factor to create something out of nothing, and it is easy to see why and how his arrival could possibly transform United into solid title contenders.

All in all, Sancho has all the attributes to be a perfect fit for Solskajer’s style of play at Old Trafford and going by the old cliche- good things do not necessarily come cheap, the 19-year-old’s massive price tag should by no means deter United’s interest.
