The Premier League is considered to be the most exciting and competitive league in the world. Every season has its own thrills and spills and this season also lived up to the billing. The excitement of such competitive football makes it the most marketable league in the world.
Manchester City raced away to win the Premier League and bagged a record-breaking 100 points this campaign. Pep Guardiola’s men were brilliant throughout the season and they richly deserved to win the league.
That being said, let us have a look at the Premier League team of the season consisting of one player each from every team.
The best in the business, David De Gea has once again been colossal in goal for Manchester United. He has been saving United’s skin for the last few years and for keeping the most clean-sheets this season, the Spaniard won the Golden Glove award.
Chelsea have had a poor season but Azpilicueta has been a consistent performer. Reliable and intelligent, the Spaniard is one of the most underrated players in the Premier League.
Tarkowski has been a rock at the back for Burnley this season as Sean Dyche’s men have qualified for Europe. The Manchester-born defender has been an ever-present figure for the Clarets and his impressive performances earned him an England call-up earlier this year.
Lascelles has been outstanding at the heart of the defence for Newcastle United. Solid and commanding, the 24-year-old marshalled his troops magnificently as the Magpies achieved a top-ten finish.
Bertrand has been one of the very few consistent performers in an otherwise forgettable campaign for Southampton. An attacking left-back, Bertrand has improved massively.
The Serbian has been superb for the Eagles, sitting at the base of midfield and dictating the tempo of the game. Not only have his defensive contributions been commanding but the midfielder has also added goals to his name this term.
One of City’s brightest sparks this season, De Bruyne has been mesmerising. While he faded a bit in the second half of the season, the Belgian deserves a big shout for all his work that guided City to the title.
Watford’s box-to-box panzer deserves endless plaudits for his efforts this season. Doucoure just went about his business in a professional manner that it became impossible for his boss to drop him. He also ended the season as his club’s top goal-scorer with 7 goals.
No prizes for guessing this one. Mohamed Salah walks straight into this team at the right-wing position. The Egyptian has enjoyed a rollicking season with the Reds, scoring and creating goals with ease and poise. He has been a revelation under Jurgen Klopp and won the Golden Boot award with 32 goals.
While Arnautovic’s success this season came in a central role at West Ham, he gets into this team at left-wing. The Austrian is considered as one of the most inconsistent players in the Premier League but he has proved to be a different player altogether this campaign.
Despite losing the Golden Boot award to Salah, Kane scored 30 goals for Spurs. The striker delivered the goods once again but still lacks a trophy in his CV.
