Three ideal long-term replacements for Sheffield United’s Billy Sharp

Sheffield United have made a superb start to their Championship season. The Blades are currently in 4th place and are enjoying their football under Chris Wilder. They are definitely in contention to get promoted to the Premier League and are very much capable of winning the title.

They have scored a total of 27 goals in 17 games this season, with striker Billy Sharp racking up a total of 10 so far. The striker is now 32 but has managed to hit prime form this season.

But the Blades will definitely need a long-term replacement for him in the near future. Should they make their way into the Premier League, Sharp cannot carry the team on his own. Here we take a look at three strikers Chris Wilder should consider when the transfer window reopens in January.

Shane Long (Southampton)

Though aged 31, Long has still shown a brilliant work ethic and has maintained his fitness at the highest level. He is one of the most experienced strikers in the Premier League but has increasing competition from Charlie Austin, Manolo Gabbiadini and Danny Ings.

Shane Long

Sheffield United should definitely make a move for the striker. He is quick and can run at defenders. The Blades like to occupy the tight spaces and find their attackers on the run, and that is why Long will flourish under Chris Wilder. He has scored a total of 48 goals in the Premier League and is very much capable of doing some damage.

Christian Benteke (Crystal Palace)

Benteke has had a miserable spell with the Eagles as he has failed to make an impact after moving to Crystal Palace two years ago. The towering Belgian is now way down the pecking order, with Wilfried Zaha, Alexander Sorloth and Jordan Ayew displacing him.

Christian Benteke

The former Liverpool striker was one of the most feared strikers in the Premier League during his time with Aston Villa. He’s strong, agile and very good in the air.

The Blades can joyfully whip the crosses in with Benteke in the box. Chris Wilder can definitely convince the striker to consider a switch to Sheffield United.

Isaac Success (Watford)

The Nigerian is a very underrated striker who seems to be quietly making a name for himself this season. Success has picked up 1 goal in 4 starts for the Hornets in the league this season. The 22-year-old also has 2 goals in 2 League Cup appearances. (Stats courtesy – Whoscored)

He is a pacy forward who loves to run at defenders. Success possesses excellent dribbling ability and is also very good at finding the space between defenders. Aged 22, he has shown great potential and will serve as an ideal long-term option for Chris Wilder’s side.
