Why Samir Nasri to West Ham United is a shrewd move by Manuel Pellegrini

According to BBC, West Ham United are set to complete a move for French midfielder Samir Nasri in the coming days. The former Manchester City star has now completed his 18-month doping ban and will be allowed to play in competitive fixtures.

The Frenchman last played for Turkish side Antalyaspor but his contract was terminated this January after which he was hit with a doping ban. But Nasri is now close to completing a medical with the Hammers and it certainly is a shrewd move by Manuel Pellegrini.

Things haven’t been smooth for the Chilean manager but it could certainly get better with Nasri’s arrival. The pair has worked together before at Manchester City, where Nasri went on to lift the Premier League title twice.

Samir Nasri

He is a technically astute player and can play anywhere across the frontline. His versatility makes him a very feasible option given the Hammers’ lack of threat in a few areas. Since Manuel Lanzini succumbed to injury, West Ham United have failed to create much going forward.

The arrival of Felipe Anderson has definitely eased the pressure but the arrival of Nasri should further ease the situation. The 31-year-old is comfortable with the ball at his feet and possesses good dribbling skills as well.

He possesses a wide range of passing as well and is capable of picking the locks in the final third. Nasri’s time at Arsenal allowed him to develop into a crisp passer of the ball. Pellegrini can definitely use the Frenchman as a central attacking midfielder behind Marko Arnautovic.

The Austrian often cuts a frustrated figure when not provided with the right kind of service. The former Stoke City man will definitely flourish playing in front of Nasri. He will definitely fit into Pellegrini’s 4-1-4-1 formation.

The likes of Felipe Anderson and Grady Diangana are pacy players who also love to make the run-ins behind defences. Nasri would be able to find the space and play them in as well. The Frenchman is also capable of delivering goals. He has scored a total of 36 goals and provided 38 assists in the Premier League. (Stats courtesy – Premier League)

The Hammers are back at 13th place after making a miserable start to their season. Once Nasri arrives, they will certainly have more cutting edge in the final third. He should be given the license to pull the strings in the middle of the park and dictate the play. Pellegrini can bring the best out of the Frenchman late into his career.
