Idrissa Gueye
After massive speculation over the last two transfer windows, Idrissa Gueye is still an Everton player. The Senegalese international was heavily linked with a move away from the club to French champions Paris Saint-Germain and even asked the club to sell him in January.
However, Everton managed to keep hold of the midfield destroyer and he has been a regular in Marco Silva’s team. According to a report from The Liverpool Echo, Everton rejected a massive £26million from PSG on deadline day in January. The report also reveals that the French giants will come back in the summer in pursuit of their man.
Everton should cash in in Idrissa Gueye and make a healthy profit over the £7.1 million they paid Aston Villa to acquire his services back in 2016. The Toffees should stretch PSG to the limit and try to get as much money as possible for Gueye and they can use it to strengthen other areas of their squad.
Gueye will enter into his thirties a month or so into the start of next season and the physical side of him will take a toll due to his age. The African has missed just 5 games for the Toffees this campaign but has failed to be as effective as he has been over the last 3 years.
Gueye’s inconsistency this campaign saw him partnered with former Manchester United outcast Morgan Schneiderlin to provide more assistance. The Frenchman, despite not being used as much, put up an impressive display in the two games he started against Cardiff and Liverpool.
Marco Silva should look to use the Frenchman more often who despite being the same age as Gueye, has the potential to hold the midfield all on his own when given a good run of games.
From a financial standpoint, Everton spent a massive £88.5 million in the summer but the club have failed to recoup much money from player sales. Davey Klassen was the only player to leave the club for a considerable amount of money but apart from that, the Toffees have earned nothing.
