Leicester City opinion: Why Leicester should sell Islam Slimani

Leicester City have regained a bit of momentum since the arrival of Brendan Rodgers. The former Liverpool boss has been a breath of fresh air at the King Power.

With a few games left this season, Leicester must try and compete for a place in the top half of the Premier League season but a part of Brendan Rodgers’ mind will be occupied with summer reinforcements.

Rodgers has a ton of decisions to make in terms of arrivals with a permanent deal for Monaco’s Youri Tielemans expected. However, Rodgers will also have to deal with the players who aren’t in his plans and Islam Slimani should be one of them.

Having made a big money switch from Sporting Lisbon in the summer of 2016, Slimani went on to make 46 appearances for Leicester City in all competitions. The Algerian, despite not being a regular starter, has scored 13 goals and assisted a further 7 in his 18-month stay at the King Power.

Slimani was loaned out to Newcastle United in January 2018 on a 6-month loan deal where he made just 4 appearances. Slimani returned after the dreadful spell in the hope of some first-team action but the now 30-year-old was loaned out again, this time to Turkish giants Fenerbahce.

The former Sporting striker hasn’t been able to show his form his time in Portugal having scored just 5 goals in 25 appearances for the Turkish club. Slimani is due to a return to Leicester in the summer but the Foxes should look to cash in on him in the summer.

Conclusion

Greek giants Olympiakos have been linked with a move for Slimani and the Foxes should not think twice about letting the Algerian leave in the summer, especially with Jamie Vardy still going strong as the Foxes’ first-choice.

The money Leicester will earn from the sale of Slimani could well be utilised to sign another striker who could compete and eventually replace Jamie Vardy at the club.

Leicester should let go of their Algerian forward and replace him with somebody younger and more agile, who would help take Leicester to the next level.
