A Goal and An Assist on Debut: Has Pedro Settled in Well at Chelsea?

Share

Just one game into his Chelsea career and Pedro has already shown what a class act he is. In this day of football, a new signing is never thrust into the deep end, players take a few weeks to acclimatise to the league and country, they need to understand the team and managerial style, well, all that was thrown out of the window as Pedro grabbed a goal and an assist on his debut.

Pedro

The Spanish winger was given a surprise start by Jose Mourinho just days after he completed a shock move to Chelsea when he was surely set to sign for Manchester United and how much United rue this miss in the transfer market, we will never know. What we do know if that his Chelsea career is off and running and that too in great fashion.

His link up play was the first thing that caught everyone’s eye with his first goal. Sure it might have gotten a bit of a deflection from Jonas Olsson, but prior to that, there was a delightful exchange between Pedro and Eden Hazard which provided the Spaniard with the chance to shoot on goal.

It seems that Pedro has understood the way his teammates play; he was on hand to provide a delightful assist to Diego Costa as the Chelsea striker doubled the Blues’ lead against West Bromwich Albion. Pedro used his speed to break down the right and drill in a low cross for Costa to knock it in from six yards out.

Pedro

Pedro, to be honest, was on fire; he created a host of chances for Chelsea and has given them that extra dimension that they have been missing this season. With the likes of Cuadrado all set to leave the Blues, pressure would have been great on the likes of Cesc Fabregas and Eden Hazard to take over the goal scoring and creating onus but Pedro will surely have a hand in a lot of the Chelsea goals in the future.

The winger just went on the prove what a world-class player actually can do at a club. He didn’t need any time to bed in, he didn’t need to be on the bench, he just went on to play. Pedro probably wanted to prove a point out to everyone that he still has it, as he had lost his starting place to Luis Suarez in the Barcelona team, which led to him wanting to leave the Spanish champions.

Pedro

Jose Mourinho should be given some credit for playing the new signing so early in his Chelsea and English career and it did pay off for the Portuguese manager at the end. The overall performance of Chelsea during the game wasn’t the greatest as they were lucky to get the win, but one man’s performance will bring a smile to the manager’s face. Pedro is here ladies and gentlemen and if he can replicate the form he hit for Barcelona before the signing of Luis Suarez, he is going to be a crucial player for the Blues.
