Why Celta Vigo’s Maxi Gomez Would Be A Good Signing For Tottenham

Celta Vigo forward Maxi Gomez has been a subject of some serious transfer rumours of late, with Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur being the pick of the clubs, interested in his services next summer.

The 21-year-old striker has played a key role in Celta Vigo so far this season, scoring 14 goals in 27 La Liga matches and his blistering performances have caught the eyes of the North London giants. In fact, the Uruguayan has also responded to the rumours linking him to a move to Spurs this summer.

“I try to watch a lot of football and learn from the greats. We are here for that. The truth is that the English league is very nice. It is stronger, more powerful. It’d be good to go there,” he told Abraham Martinez at AS (h/t Sport Witness).

Tottenham Hotspur, on the other hand, have looked a little fragile in the offensive department. Despite having the likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen, the Lilywhites could be in deep trouble should they lose any of their star players.

Harry Kane, in particular, has been a vital asset for the club over the past few years. His incredible goal-scoring prowess coupled with his immense work-rate has helped him evolve as one of the best strikers in world football and therefore, it’s needless to say that the English international is easily the most important player in the current Spurs roster.

That being said, however, Tottenham lack any serious depth when it comes to the attacking positions. Although they secured the services of Fernando Llorente last summer, the former Juventus striker has appeared quite ineffective and could be in for a move out of Tottenham this summer.

Therefore, head coach Mauricio Pochettino should definitely go after Maxi Gomez this summer. The 21-year-old can enhance Tottenham’s depth in the attacking department and could certainly prove to be an impressive back-up for Harry Kane. In addition, with Harry Kane being heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid this summer, Maxi Gomez could even emerge as a replacement for the English international.

Known for his incredible tenacity and energetic approach against opposing defenders, Maxi Gomez is tailor-made for Premier League’s high-pitched and physical football.

Gomez, who was close to a move to Chinese Super League outfit Beijing Guoan in December 2017, has already admitted his willingness to play in the Premier League and the Uruguayan is more than ready to make the next step in his career, as it seems.
