Why Tottenham must splash £44million to sign Christian Pulisic

Manager Pochettino is yet to win a trophy with Tottenham Hotspur despite showing considerable progress over the last two years. His efforts have rewarded with a with a new five-year contract that will keep him at the club till 2023.

It seems to be only a matter of time before Pochettino delivers, as the Argentine is by far one of the best managers to have coached the Lilywhites.

Spurs are buzzing after subsequently handing star striker Harry Kane a renewed six-year contract this summer. Daniel Levy seems to be determined to deliver success after gradually lifting the club to new heights.

Tottenham have been linked with Borussia Dortmund midfielder Christian Pulisic over the last few days. Spurs are reportedly interested in signing the 19-year-old American and have tabled a bid of £44m to sign him.

Pulisic broke onto the scene in January 2016 and has gone on to establish himself as a fan favourite at the club. He has made a total of 97 appearances, scoring 12 goals and providing 20 assists in that time.

The American played for Brackley Town’s academy while living in England for a year, before moving back to Pennsylvania. He made the move to Germany in 2015 and has made a total of 21 appearances so far, scoring an impressive nine goals.

The Dortmund man generally operates as a central midfielder but is also capable of playing on the right or left flank.

He is a versatile attacker who possesses all the right traits. Pulisic made a total of 27 appearances last season, scoring 4 goals and providing 5 assists in the process. He has got plenty of experience in Europe as well, playing in both the Champions League as well as the Europa League.

He is an excellent dribbler and his direct runs often give defenders a torrid time at the back. Although Spurs possess the likes of Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli, and Heung-min Son, Pochettino could certainly use greater firepower up front.

Erik Lamela has been a ghost in the Spurs’ squad so far and Lucas Moura hasn’t found his feet yet. With Pulisic in the squad, Pochettino would possess the depth required to take the Lilywhites to new heights next season.
