Go for it Dyche – Why Burnley must make a move for 14-goal wonder Mahmoud Hassan

According to ESPN FC, Burnley are one of the Premier League clubs eyeing a move for Egypt international forward Mahmoud Hassan.

Hassan, who has been nicknamed “Trezeguet” after the former French striker David Trezeguet, is currently impressing on loan at Turkish side Kasimpasa, from Anderlecht. Having joined Kasimpasa from Anderlecht last summer, the Egyptian has enjoyed a prolific season in front of goal, scoring 14 goals and creating 5 in 30 appearances in all competitions.

The 23-year-old’s sizzling displays have caught the attention of a host of clubs including Burnley. But should the Clarets make a move for the forward this summer?

Sean Dyche has been successful in silencing his critics this season by guiding Burnley to a 7th-place finish in the league. The Clarets are on course to play in the Europa League next season and Dyche is expected to get substantial funds to boost his squad.

Burnley currently have a shortage of wide players, with the likes of Aaron Lennon and Johann Berg Gudmundsson the only primary wingers in the squad, while Georges-Kevin N’Koudou is on loan until the end of the season.

Therefore, bolstering the attack in summer makes sense as the signing of Hassan could see him provide competition for Lennon and Gudmundsson. The 23-year-old attacker is out of contract at the end of next season and could be available at a knockdown price this summer.

Hassan has established himself as a regular starter in the national team and was a pivotal figure in firing Egypt to the World Cup in Russia. He won the decisive penalty which Mohamed Salah converted to give the team a 2-1 win over Congo in Alexandria last year, which helped them to their first World Cup finals since 1990.

The nippy forward is set to feature at this summer’s World Cup in Russia and his breathtaking displays on the left-wing coupled with a knack for scoring decisive goals have helped him become one of the pillars in the Egypt national team.

The Egyptian has been in breathtaking form for Kasimpasa this campaign and a move to Burnley could work well for him. Hassan would also add the unpredictability factor, while he will also add the much-needed pace and incisiveness to Dyche’s attack.

Having impressed at club level, Hassan would be itching to make a mark in the glitz and glamour tournament in the summer. If he impresses in Russia, the 23-year-old could certainly follow his countrymen Mohamed Salah, Ramadan Sobhi and Mohamed Elneny to the Premier League.
