Fulham opinion: Should the Cottagers reignite interest in Islam Slimani?

Fulham’s status as a Premier League team came to an end after their defeat against Watford in midweek. The Cottagers are onto their third manager now in Scott Parker after sacking their previous two during the course of the season.

Fulham should now concentrate on the summer transfer window and hope that none of their star players leaves. However, a lot of rumours have surfaced regarding the future of Cottagers striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.

The Serbian has been Fulham’s top scorer this season and was one of the fundamental reasons behind their promotion to the Premier League last season.

Reports have revealed that a number of Premier League clubs including Tottenham Hotspur, Leicester City and West Ham are plotting a move for the 24-year-old in the upcoming transfer window.

The Lilywhites have also lost Andre Schurrle, who is set to return to his parent club Borussia Dortmund after cutting short his two-year loan deal.

Fulham have to bring in a forward if they are to have any chance of making an immediate return to the Premier League.

One player who Fulham should seriously consider is Leicester’s Islam Slimani. The Cottagers were linked with a move (h/t Telegraph) for the Algerian back in December when Claudio Ranieri was in charge of the club, but a deal to reunite the duo failed to materialise.

Fulham should reignite their interest in Slimani and make a move for the 30-year-old talisman in the summer. Slimani is currently on loan at Turkish club Fenerbahce, but he hasn’t had the kind of impact that he would have looked forward to.

Slimani has scored just 5 goals for the Turkish giants in 25 appearances in all competitions but the Algerian provides a lot more to a team than just goals. Slimani is a massive presence on the pitch and is great at hold-up play.

Slimani’s failure to have more of an impact in the Super Lig has mainly been down to Fenerbahce’s style of play. Ersun Yanal’s tactics have failed him so far this campaign, as the Efsane sit just 4 points away from the relegation places.

The Algerian’s record for Leicester City is quite impressive, having directly been involved in 20 goals in 23 starts for the club in all competitions.

The Foxes’ preference to have Jamie Vardy lead the line has pushed Slimani away from the King Power but Fulham could benefit greatly by adding the 30-year-old in their squad.

Conclusion

Slimani’s aerial prowess would be ideal for the Lilywhites and the Algerian could potentially have the same impact that Mitrovic had for them last season. Slimani will bring goals and experience to this Fulham side, something that they have lacked this season.

Fulham should revive their interest in Islam Slimani and make it a point to bring in the Leicester man in the summer.
