After plying his trade in Dutch, English, German and Spanish football and after a glorious career to look back, Former United and Real Madrid striker Ruud van Nistelrooy is now ready to move into coaching role, inspired by his fellow countrymen Patrick Kluivert.
At the age of 35, Van Nistelrooy bid adieu to the game this summer, after a season with at La Liga side Malaga. The initial days of his career at PSV Eindhoven, Manchester United and Real Madrid saw him terrorize defenses and there was no other striker as good as him known for his goal poaching abilities.
Van Nistelrooy left Real Madrid in 2010, having a spell in Germany at Hamburg and then finishing his career back in Spain, at Malaga. But football may not have seen the last of Van Nistelrooy, who is now ready to gain his coaching qualifications and move into the managerial side of the game.
“I have kept a close watch on the career of Patrick Kluivert”, Van Nistelrooy told Dutch daily De Telegraaf, referring to the former striker who is now an assistant to Louis van Gaal with the Holland national team. And I am interested in exploring this avenue”, he continued. I will at least pass my exams and get an internship, while I wait for my chance.”
Van Nistelrooy has surely what it takes to be a good coach, if he is given enough time as the striker has a wealth of experience to stand him in good stead for a coaching adventure.
At international level he won 70 caps for Holland, scoring 35 goals. On the club scene, Van Nistelrooy collected two Eredivisie titles, one Premier League title, one FA Cup, one League Cup, two La Liga titles and finished as Champions League topscorer three times, amongst other notable achievements.
