With recent reports suggesting that Thibaut Courtois is being lined up as Real Madrid’s top transfer target, Chelsea may be left needing a replacement goalkeeper this summer. With all hopes of top four gone and a place in the Europa League spots seeming unlikely, Chelsea will be out of European competitions after more than a decade. Many such factors have affected the players and fans alike.
Top stars might look for new clubs, with a new manager guaranteed to ring changes when he arrives in London at the end of this season. Latest reports is that Los Blancos will look to sign Thibaut Courtois if the De Gea deal fails to go through. The attraction of playing in Spain and of playing for Real is hard for any player in the world and if a right offer comes, Courtois may leave Stamford Bridge in the summer.
Here are three replacements for the Beligian keeper that Chelsea should look to sign:
Keylor Navas
If Courtois moves to the Spanish capital, then Chelsea should try and strike a swap deal, involving the Costa Rican. Navas has been sensational this season and is regarded amongst the top goalkeepers in Europe right now. With the Belgian arriving in Madrid, Navas will not be happy warming the bench for the rest of the season and a move to the Blues might just be the perfect destination for him. He had huge shoes to fill when he came into the side but has done exceeding well since the departure of club legend Iker Cassilas and he can certainly replicate the same in the Premier League.
Jack Butland
Butland has been in sensational form this season in the Premier League, he has established himself as one of the best young keepers in the world. Although he has just signed a new deal with Stoke City, a move to London will be hard to turn down for the English lad. The fact that he is English will also go a long way in filling Chelsea’s English quota in their squad. A move to a bigger club will definitely help the youngster improve his game, which is very good news for the national team as well.
Marc- Andre Ter Stegen
Claudio Bravo is Barcelona’s first choice keeper in La Liga and Ter Stegen plays the cup competition for the Catalan club. He is also the heir to Manuel Neuer for Germany. According to reports the German isn’t happy at Camp Nou and is looking to force a move abroad. Playing in the cup competitions, he is guaranteed success with the brilliant Barca side but in order to challenge Neuer in the national team, he will need more game time. A move to Chelsea will make all the Blues fans happy, as he is the perfect replacement for Thibaut Courtois.
