Two Replacements For Cameron Jerome Who Norwich City Can Target

It is time for some real change at Norwich City this summer, as new manager, new players have a second chance to prove that they should have been challenging for the title in this division after their demotion from the Premier League.

The worst case scenario for the Canaries is that Daniel Farke doesn’t work out, and Dorrans and Naismith move away from the club. On top of this, Cameron Jerome may well be on the way out as well. Norwich are reportedly willing to listen to offers for the striker who would still command a good fee.

So who could replace the big man up front? Here we look at two possibilities.

Darren Bent (Derby County)

OK, this won’t exactly excite the Norwich fans but the former England man would replace one vital thing that they would lose in selling Jerome – experience.

His legs aren’t the same, but the former Aston Villa and Sunderland man still puts away just about every chance that comes along his way. So the output expected from Bent really depends on who he is playing with. Strong passers playing behind the strikers would see Bent reaching double figures in this league.

Despite a growing reputation as some kind of an impact sub, the 33-year-old hit 10 goals in 22 starts last season at Pride Park, which is a very fine ratio indeed. Had he been 20 years younger, that sort of record would have the Rams commanding a good fee for his services.

Joe Garner (Rangers)

Garner definitely has the ability to play in this division but is on a list of players who have been deemed surplus to requirements by Pedro Caixinha at Rangers.

The Rangers connection is important here. If the Rangers sign Steven Naismith and take him back to Ibrox then Garner could be an important part of the deal. The former Preston North End striker is another player who can comfortably aim for 10+ goals in the Championship and so bringing him in would be a pretty wise move.

Garner hit 7 goals in 21 starts in the Scottish Premiership last season and would probably have hit more had it not been for him being in and out of the side. A settled starting birth for Garner will definitely lead to a better output in terms of goals and assists.
